Movement That Feels Good, Not Forced

As I write this, I’m on a flight for a week in Yellowstone with my family—days filled with long walks, fresh air, trails, and moving in ways that feel like living.

And it made me think about the theme I want to focus on this week...

Movement doesn’t need to look like a workout even though we've been programmed into thinking that's the only way to achieve success.
It doesn’t have to be tracked, timed or pushed through.

I found that the more you try to force it, the harder it becomes to stay consistent.

I say this out loud as a reminder to myself too, because sometimes moving in different ways than you routinely do can be just what your body needs.

The Truth

You’ll never stick with movement you hate.
But you’ll crave the kind you enjoy.

I commend people who run and those who can run long distances. I'll be honest - running has never been something I enjoyed. There were times I tried to force myself to do it to get a quick cardio session in or because I was told it was good for me or even to get that "runner's high" people talk about. Most of the time I dreaded it.

Whether it’s a long walk, a dance break in the kitchen, lifting weights or stretching with a podcast in the background—it counts.

Every time I start doing housework, watering plants, cleaning the house, I realize that the movement I'd just done registers just like I've worked out. I'm moving my body and getting my heart rate up, and that's what counts.

And if you’re just starting out, or starting again?
Let it be messy. Let it be short. Let it be enjoyable.

Because consistency isn’t built on discipline alone.
It’s built on wanting to come back to it.

This week I'm focusing on movement that:

  • Feels energizing and nourishing

  • Matches my energy and mood

  • Connects me to nature, my breath and my body

  • Reminds me what it means to feel alive and in awe of the beauty that's around us

This Week’s Challenge/Reflection for You:

What kind of movement feels good right now?
And what’s one way you can make it easier to return to?

You don’t need to do more.
You just need to find your rhythm—and stay close to it.
