New Season, Fresh Routine
The Energy of September
How fitting is it that September 1st hit on Labor Day this year - a holiday that feels like a bridge between seasons. It signifies the end of summer, a return to ‘normal’, kids back in school and a subtle shift into a more focused, serious tone.
Personally? I LOVE this time of year. The air starts to get cooler, sweatshirts come out and the sense of starting fresh feels comfy.
Craving Routine Again
What I’m feeling–and what I hear from friends and clients alike–is that there’s an urge to get back to routine, not just at work but at home. Not just with schedules but with having a sense of control over the day-to-day.
How we take care of ourselves becomes a big part of this shift in September. These last several weeks have brought me lots of connection, celebration, fun food and travel, which I’m sure is the case for many of you. I don’t know about you, but I’m totally ready to dial back in!
My September Reset
Here’s what I’m focusing on this month to feel more grounded:
Meals at home. Prepping and eating most of my meals at home is key for me. I know what foods make me feel good and which don’t. I’m currently struggling with lower energy and breakouts from my week in Maine and eating all the yummy food it had to offer. I thoroughly enjoyed it all and knowingly go into vacays knowing what the aftereffects may be.
Meal planning. This keeps the guess work out of the equation and honestly, temptation too. A little meal prep, even if it only covers a couple days can go a long way.
Heart health. With cardiovascular disease in my family this is a non-negotiable. I’m notorious for not spending enough time on cardio and will find any excuse to stop (e.g. I’m bored, gotta go, I’ll do it tomorrow). I’d rather lift weights and be done. For longevity reasons, I’m making a concerted effort to schedule in my cardio each week this month (e.g. Japanese walking trend (look it up!), stairclimber, HIIT, incline walks, Skierg, etc).
Walking outside daily. The weather is perfect for walking outside this time of year and though I don’t count steps, I’m going to commit to walking outside for at least 30 minutes every day this first week - just movement, fresh air and intentionality.
What about you?
I’ve shared what I’m doing–but I know some of you are also thinking about how to reset this month, how to get back to a healthier routine or start a new habit. September is when past clients reconnect and new clients often reach out, because it’s such a natural reset point.
If I can help you get on track—or establish new habits that finally stick—reach out. I’m always up for a chat!
