Craving a Comeback to Routine?
After a couple weeks of celebrating, eating out, and letting routines loosen in the best way possible while honoring this milestone, I’m craving my ‘normal’ again, and some stillness. Not because I did anything wrong, but because I miss how good I feel when I’m grounded.
Though movement has remained a part of these past few weeks, there’s also been lots of treats, travel, less quality sleep, heartfelt conversations and connections, and so much love. It's been a combination I've so enjoyed and wouldn’t trade any of it. I'm very grateful for it all.
But now? I’m craving a reset.
Not a detox. Not a drastic restart. Just a gentle return to the routines that make me feel my best. I’ve talked about the all-or-nothing mindset just not working long term, and that’s the truth. I’m a firm believer that deprivation and restriction can be harmful to your well-being, both physically and mentally.
Look at it like a dimmer vs. an on/off switch–it’s not a quick flip, you’re just slowly brightening your light.
I think the summer seems to carry that energy for many people—a natural pull at the end of the summer toward re-entry after a few months of less structure and more indulgence. Whether you’ve been traveling, hosting, jumping from event to event, or simply moving through summer at a different pace, chances are your habits have shifted too. And I’ll also say for those with kids, having them home and out of THEIR routine can also put a wrench in your usual habits.
Remember that the routines don’t always have to do with things like sleep, movement and food--though these are a huge piece--it can also be the emotional shift and the way you look at your inbox, your to-do list, the quiet pressure you put on yourself to suddenly ‘be productive’ again.
And that’s okay.
Instead of jumping into extremes, I like to think of this transition out of the summer as a recalibration. A way to ease back in without guilt or pressure. Because you don’t need to overhaul your life to feel better—you just need a few grounded habits to come home to and lock in. THIS is how lasting change happens--it's never the quick fix.
Here’s what that looks like for me over these next few weeks:
✨ Prioritizing hydration (more morning water before coffee and drinking throughout the day)
✨ Getting back to more home-cooked meals with whole, simple ingredients
✨ Anchoring my day with a consistent bedtime + wake-up times
✨ Focusing on movement that feels good, not forced
✨ And still enjoying all the get-togethers that make the summer fun!
These last four weeks of the summer may look different for many of you out there. School starting before Labor Day (blasphemy!), shipping kids off to college, last summer vacation, final beach days and more WFH. Just enjoy it and slowly bring one or two things back that are part of your regular routine so you can hit September with a little more pep in your step.
Reflection Prompt:
What routines help you feel most grounded?
What’s one thing you can bring back this week that makes a big impact on how you feel?
No need to do it all. Just start with one.
Let’s ease in, together.
